Meet Dr. Sarita Mahtani

MD, IFMCP | Board-Certified in Internal & Certified in Functional Medicine

Dr. Sarita Mahtani is a physician, scientist, and passionate advocate for a more intelligent and personalized approach to healthcare. She founded SouthPark Functional Medicine to provide patients with the root-cause analysis that she found was missing from the conventional medical landscape.

A Foundation in Elite Conventional Medicine

Dr. Mahtani’s journey began with a rigorous scientific education, earning a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology before receiving her M.D. from the distinguished University of Washington School of Medicine. She then served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and an Attending Physician at one of the nation’s top academic medical centers, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. It was here, while practicing in their Integrative Health and Wellbeing clinic and as a hospitalist in New York City and Seattle, that she honed her expertise in managing complex, chronic diseases.

The Evolution to a Root-Cause Approach

Through her two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Mahtani recognized the limitations of a system focused on merely managing symptoms. Driven by a commitment to find better answers for her patients, she pursued and earned a certification in functional medicine from the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFMCP), the gold standard in the field. This dual expertise allows her to bridge the gap between the diagnostic rigor of internal medicine and the holistic, systems-based approach of functional medicine.

A Unique Global & Holistic Perspective

Dr. Mahtani’s passion for health extends beyond the individual to the environment we live in. She served as the physician liaison to NYPGreen, the environmental sustainability office of NewYork-Presbyterian, and held an advisory board membership at the American Public Health Association’s Center for Climate, Health, and Equity. Her global experience includes living in India, where she obtained a certification in Reiki, reflecting her deep commitment to understanding all facets of holistic well-being.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Mahtani finds joy in exploring wellness practices like Kundalini yoga and pilates. She is an avid reader and satisfies her adventurous spirit by traveling and exploring new destinations with her family in Charlotte.
